Thoughts, projects, and ideas driven by curiosity.

A personal space for writing, building, and exploring what interests me — from academic topics to evolving projects and everything in between.

Projects

The following two projects came out of what I learned about machine learning and AI at university. I’ve been fascinated by how quickly AI applications are advancing, especially in the field of programming, which led me to start experimenting with tools like Codex, Claude, and Gemini, going beyond just traditional LLM use.

With a foundation in both hardware and software from my mechatronics background, I became curious about how written code actually turns into real things, like programs, websites, and other digital or even physical tools, far beyond tools like SPSS. It always felt a bit like magic to me. While many tools today simplify this process through sandbox environments where you can achieve a lot without writing much code, there are still constraints and trade-offs involved. At the same time, I started to see coding as something almost limitless, where the only real constraint is your own creativity. All you really need is a computer, and now, increasingly, tools that can guide and support you along the way, making it possible to build things even without being an expert at coding.

As a result, I gradually got into APIs, prompt engineering, and related areas. At some point, I wanted to see how far I could actually take it. Instead of building something abstract, I focused on something I was already interested in: macroeconomic trends.

I’ve always been curious about how the stock market, geopolitical events, scientific advancements, and even human behavior interact, and how all of that fits together. That’s how the first dashboard came to life. From there, the idea for an ETF performance tool emerged almost naturally, almost like a sub-project.

I’m still learning the interworkings of different applications, but more importantly, how to turn an idea into something real.

Exploring Macro Trends Through Data

I wanted a better way to make sense of macroeconomic developments beyond scattered charts and headlines. Instead of looking at things in isolation, I tried to bring different indicators into one place and see how they relate to each other over time.

It’s less about predicting anything and more about building an intuition. Understanding what moves together, what doesn’t, and what might actually matter beneath the surface.

A Closer Look at ETF Performance

This grew out of the same process. While working on the macro side, I became curious about how different ETFs behave under different market conditions and wanted to explore that a bit further.

It’s a smaller, more focused project, but part of the same idea. Taking something I’m already interested in and trying to understand it a bit more clearly.

About Me

I’m Espen. I spend a lot of time trying to make sense of things that sit somewhere between data, economics, people, and technology.

This site is where I keep track of that. You’ll find thoughts, articles, and the occasional project that comes out of trying to understand something a bit better. And maybe, along the way, something here sparks your curiosity too.
